John Henry Reese was born in Sweetwater, Nebraska. He was educated in Kansas and Nebraska. Reese now lives in Santa Maria, California. Reese has worked for the United States Department of Internal Revenue and also as a reporter for the Los Angeles Examiner in Los Angeles, California. He is a member of the Western Writers of America and was awarded the Silver Spur Award for best western novel, 1977, for Halter-Broke .
